This policy explains what information LawnoteBook (“LawNotebook”, “we”) collects when you use LawNotebook, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have.
1. Information you give us when you register
When you create an account we collect your name, email address, phone number, state and city, and the university and college you study at. We also keep your password in a securely hashed form; we never store it in readable form.
2. Academic information
We record the course you choose to study, and the university and college it belongs to. This decides which content you see and which subscription applies to you.
3. Account and subscription information
We keep details of your account (such as when it was created and its status) and of your subscriptions: the course, the package, the amount and tax paid, and the validity period.
4. Payment information
Online payments are processed by Razorpay. Your card, UPI or bank details are entered on Razorpay's secure payment window and are handled by Razorpay; LawNotebook does not receive or store your full card number or card security code.
From Razorpay we receive and keep payment references, the amount, the currency, the payment status and the payment method type, so that we can confirm your payment and activate your subscription. If you pay at your college office, the details of the payment recorded by the administrator are kept.
5. Notes, bookmarks, progress, reminders and feedback
To provide the study features, we store the notes you write, the questions you add to your Remember and Revisit lists, your to-dos and reminders, your reading progress and your reading preferences.
When you send us feedback we keep your name, email address, the topic, where the issue is and your message, so that we can look into it and reply. Feedback about content may be passed to the college that published that content.
6. Technical and log information
When you use the platform, our servers may process technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, and the date and time of requests. We use it to keep the platform secure (for example, to limit repeated sign-in attempts), to keep your session signed in and to diagnose problems.
7. How we use your information
- to create and manage your account and let you sign in;
- to show you the content for your course and unlock it when you subscribe;
- to process payments and manage your subscription;
- to provide notes, lists, reminders, progress and downloads (downloaded PDFs are marked with your name and email address);
- to send you account, payment, subscription and feedback messages, and platform notifications;
- to answer your questions and feedback;
- to keep the platform secure, prevent misuse and fix problems;
- to meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
8. Payment processing through Razorpay
Razorpay processes online payments on our behalf. When you pay, the information you enter in the payment window is handled by Razorpay under its own terms and privacy policy.
9. Email and communication providers
We use [EMAIL SERVICE PROVIDER] to deliver emails such as registration confirmation, password reset, payment and subscription messages and feedback acknowledgements. It receives only what is needed to deliver those emails.
10. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including hashed passwords, secure sign-in sessions and access limited to authorised people. No system is completely secure, so please keep your password private and tell us at support@lawnotebook.com if you think your account has been misused.
11. Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists and as needed to provide the service. Payment and subscription records are kept for as long as required for accounting, tax and legal purposes. [ACCOUNT AND PAYMENT DATA RETENTION PERIODS TO BE CONFIRMED]
Feedback messages are kept for 12 months. After that, the sender's name, email address, the message and any related notes are permanently removed, and only non-personal handling details (such as the reference, topic and status) are kept.
12. Your requests about your information
You can see and update most of your profile in your account settings. To ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or the closing of your account and deletion of your information, write to support@lawnotebook.com from the email address on your account. We will respond in line with applicable law. Some records, such as payment records, may need to be kept even after an account is closed.
13. Cookies and local storage
LawNotebook uses cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in securely. It also uses your browser's local storage to remember preferences such as text size and reading settings on your device. We do not use advertising cookies.
14. Third-party services
Besides Razorpay and our email provider, pages load web fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers. Where the platform is offered with your college, authorised administrators, which may include staff of your college, can see the account and subscription details needed to support you.
15. Children and minors
LawNotebook is intended for students of law colleges. [MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT TO BE CONFIRMED] If you believe a person below the applicable age has given us personal information without the required consent, please contact us at support@lawnotebook.com and we will look into it.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed, and where a change is significant we will tell you through the platform or by email.
